The Center for the Arts
Genre: Rock North Mississippi Allstars bring a deep-groove, foot-stomping blend of blues, rock, and Southern soul that feels both ancestral and electric. Rooted in the North Mississippi hill country tradition of RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner, and Fred McDowell — and shaped by the fearless musical spirit of their father, producer Jim Dickinson — brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson have spent nearly three decades turning that lineage into something fiercely their own: what they call Modern Mississippi Music. On stage, it’s raw, rhythmic, and alive — hypnotic riffs, driving drums, and extended jams that blur the line between juke joint revival and psychedelic rock show. Their sound has earned Grammy nominations and collaborations or shared stages with artists across generations and genres, including Phil Lesh, Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, John Hiatt, The Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, Buddy Guy, Snoop Dogg, and Jon Spencer. At its core, a North Mississippi Allstars show is a celebration — of community, of groove, and of the enduring power of Southern music played loud and from the heart.
